A fine flat field surrounded by trees is in use today as our arena, giving a really cosy atmosphere but still with loads of space for everyone. Big screen, spectator passage with coaching zone, lively commentary including interviews of leading runners, and a long run-in along the edge of the field to the finish line are all combining together to provide a splendid spectator experience. And later the many spectators will have their own chance to enjoy the forest, with a mass start on Long distance courses for the majority of classes late this afternoon.

The forest is quite fast in the early stages, but becomes rough and hilly with lots of big-scale contour detail. Runners are finishing very tired – but some good times are being posted on the challenging courses. Go Live to find out the latest!

Gold medals today in testing Sprint terrain to Swiss Eline Gemperle and Australian Aston Key, Aston winning by a good margin – 13 seconds. Both races were fast and furious, with the lead changing many times.

Spectators in the arena had a fantastic view of the action, both the finish run-in and behind it the runners’ arena passage, from a long and high grass bank sloping up from the flat finish area. Both the women’s and men’s races provided continuous excitement, with the big screen showing action amongst the houses and flats in the surrounding area as well as in the arena. Plenty to cheer about for the very good crowd of spectators here!

Tomorrow is a complete change in tempo, with the rough and hilly Velling-Snabegård forest, used also for JWOC back in 1995, being the venue for the Long distance.

A damp start for the Model Event this morning, but the heavy clouds cleared and it was dry and breezy for the Opening Ceremony in the packed central square in Silkeborg. Morten Pedersen on behalf of the organisers, Steen Vindum, Mayor of Silkeborg, Nik Suter representing the IOF, and Walther Rahbek, Chairman of the Danish Orienteering Federation, all spoke – and JWOC is now officially declared Open!

We’re now looking forward to the first race, the Sprint. It’s in Lyseng, a suburb of Aarhus in the southern part of the city, with first start at 10.00 and last start some three hours later. The first medal ceremony is planned for 13.45. In the afternoon, the JWOC Tour runners have a Sprint race in the same area.

The forecast is for a largely dry but cloudy day, perhaps with an odd shower, maximum temperature 16 degrees and a fresh NW wind. The weather outlook for the rest of the week is quite promising!

It's Friday afternoon and the JWOC Event Centre is buzzing with activity: teams arriving and checking in, others getting back from the last day of the pre-JWOC Training camp.

Tomorrow, things move up a gear: two model events (morning and afternoon), split by the Opening Ceremony with teams in procession through traffic-free streets with shops and cafés to Silkeborg’s central square, where the weekly summer jazz concert will make way briefly for the Grand Opening. Then to finish the day, the Technical Model Event, and the first Team Officials Meeting.

And after the Opening Ceremony, the JWOC Tour - the spectator races - kick off with the Sprint Prologue in central Silkeborg's streets, backyards, passages and little parks.

A sunny and fresh day today with temperature of 18 degrees – but tomorrow morning might be a bit damp … Let’s hope any rain clears away in time for the lunchtime ceremony.

In just a week and a half, the Junior World Championships in Aarhus and Silkeborg will be under way. It’s really good that so many orienteers have decided to join us for this great orienteering festival in east Jutland.

For the Championships themselves we have teams from 41 nations. There are 433 athletes and team officials entered – 182 men and 162 women athletes plus 89 officials.

The advance entry for the public races (JWOC Tour) is 576, some running all races and others running just on certain days. Overall there are in fact more participants from foreign countries than from Denmark.

Fortunately there is still a chance to be a part of the Tour, even if you have not yet entered. You can easily enter the open classes available each day.

The organisers are working to get the very final things in place, and are looking forward to welcoming everyone in just a few days’ time.

A weekend with test races is succesfully completed, both for the participants and the organizers.

With runners from many nations, the competiton was tough especially in the W20 and M20 classes. There were many great performances, and the races were also a good opportunity for the runners to match themselves to the international junior top level, as several top 10 runners from last year's JWOC were running the races. 

The Danish, Finnish, Czech and British teams will be selected based on the races, and the coaches will in the coming days have a difficult job of doing this. 

We hope that everyone had a good experience racing with us and got to go home with some extra motivation for coming back in four weeks. Otherwise, the entry for the JWOC Tour is still open. Check the menu above to enter.

En weekend med testløb er veloverstået, både for deltagere og arrangørers vedkommende. 

Med løbere fra mange af de store o-nationer, var konkurrencen hård. især i H/D 20 klasserne. Der blevet lavet mange gode præstationer og løbene var også en god mulighed for løberne, for at sammenligne dem selv med toppen af det internationale junior felt, da flere af JWOC 2018's top 10 løbere deltog ved løbene. 

Både for de danske, finske, tjekkiske og britiske landshold, var løbene udtagelsesløb og de respektive trænere står i de næste dage over for en hård opgave med at udvælge de 6 herrer og 6 damer, der skal løbe i terrænerne omkring Silkeborg og i Aarhus igen, om fire uger. 

Vi håber at alle havde en god oplevelse og kan tage en ekstra portion motivation med hjem frem mod mesterskabet. Og ellers er tilmeldingen for JWOC Tour stadig åben. Tilmeldingen til Tour foregår via o-service.

Runners from several countries are competing around Himmelbjerget at the JWOC 2019 test races this weekend and the competition is tough. Many nations use the races for selection of the runners going to the championships but it is also a great opportunity to see where the shape is at in an international field.
